The role & team
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cloud Systems Administrator with a strong focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and related technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing our cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability of our services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. AWS Infrastructure Management:
· Administer and manage AWS services including EC2, EKS, ECS, RDS Aurora Serverless, and other AWS offerings.
· Implement and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure for optimal performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
· Design and execute strategies for backup, disaster recovery, and high availability.
2. Kubernetes and Containerization:
· Deploy, manage, and scale applications using Kubernetes (EKS).
· Monitor and optimize the performance of containerized applications.
· Ensure container orchestration and deployment processes are efficient and secure.
3. Database Administration:
· Manage RDS Aurora Serverless databases, ensuring performance optimization, data integrity, and security.
· Implement automated database backups and disaster recovery plans.
· Monitor database performance and make adjustments as needed.
4. Network and Security:
· Administer and optimize AWS and Cloudflare configurations for enhanced security and performance.
· Implement and maintain network security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption.
· Conduct regular security audits and ensure compliance with industry standards.
5. Team Collaboration and Leadership:
· Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless deployment of applications.
· Stay updated with emerging technologies and AWS updates to drive continuous improvement.
· Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and ensure uptime of services
· On call duties are rewarded separately
· On call duties are rotated between the rest of the SysAdmin team
Qualifications:
Must have background and experience requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
· Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems administration with a focus on AWS.
· Strong working experience with EKS, ECS, RDS, Redshift, EC2, S3, VPC, ACM, load balancers, and Lambda.
· Experience in networking and security access controls (IAM, Security Groups).
· Knowledge of AWS CLI and SDKs
· Experienced in Linux OS, installing, integrating and troubleshooting Linux based services.
· Experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL.
· Experience with web servers like Apache and Nginx.
· Experienced in computer networks, setting up, maintaining and troubleshooting of different network technologies (Cisco, Palo Alto and Ruckus)
· Experience with monitoring tools like AWS CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, Nagios, and Cacti.
· Experienced in setting up, managing, and troubleshooting log management solutions such as ELK and OpenSearch.
· Experience in managing and configuring Azure Active Directory (Microsoft Entra Identity)
and Microsoft Exchange Online.
· Experience with DNS, DHCP, LDAP, MemCache and backup technologies.
· Proficiency in managing Cloudflare and understanding its integration with AWS.
· Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, for example AWS CDK, CloudFormation and Terraform.
· Knowledge and skills in cost optimization and cost monitoring
· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
· Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
· Creating and maintaining relevant IT documents and policies.
· AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator certification is a big plus.
